Neymar saw a yellow card for time wasting during the final minutes of Barcelona’s game with Villarreal at the Camp Nou, which means he will miss the Catalans’ next league game in Getafe.
With Barça leading 2-1, the match referee Iglesias Villanueva booked the Brazilian who picked up his fifth yellow card of the season.
Consequently, the Barça forward will not be available for Tata Martino to face Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez stadium next Sunday 22nd December at 17:00. Neymar’s absence is added to that of Barcelona’s other star player, Leo Messi, who is still in Argentina recovering from his latest muscular injury.
The widespread view is that the Brazilian international went looking for the yellow card in order to have a clean slate for Barça’s important game against Atlético de Madrid on 12th January and bring forward his Christmas holidays.
Neymar deliberately delayed taking a corner kick, playing around with the corner flag until the referee decided to go over and show him a yellow card which will see him serve a mandatory one-match suspension.
